Planet Bingo’s video distribution System is designed to allow floor managers to operate any of three different “game modes” while simultaneously displaying a Shaw TV channel on specific screens. The game modes are “Bingo Boards”, “Bingo Ball”, and “Bonanza Ball”.
The System is controlled from a small touchscreen located on the call desk. The screen will turn itself off automatically after a period of inactivity, but can be woken up again with a tap. The Home screen looks like this:
Tapping on any of the three Game Modes will activate it (after asking for confirmation):
After tapping “Play”, the System will return to its Home Screen.
The System Power switch turns all of Planet Bingo’s screens on and off, but does not power on/off any of the System’s other components. System Power should be used at the beginning and end of each day to save electricity and prolong the life of the screens.
To turn the screens on, simply tap the System Power switch and then Continue on the next page:
The Television switch enables or disables a Shaw TV broadcast to specific screens on the first and second floors. Three screens on the first floor and one screen on the second floor are set up to show Television when this setting is enabled. Those screens cannot be changed using the touchscreen, and only one channel can be shown on all screens at any time.
To enable or disable Television mode, just tap the switch on the Home screen and then Continue on the next page:
To change the channel being shown on these screens, tap the small TV button at the lower right of the screen:
The next screen presents a set of “Favourite” channels
Tapping one of the Favourites here, then on Continue on the following page, will change the Shaw cable box to that channel:
In order to change to a channel not listed as a Favourite, or to access the Guide or Menu, tap the Remote button at the top of the Controls page:
This brings up a set of buttons that correspond to ones commonly used on a Shaw remote control:
These buttons get operated just like buttons on a real remote control.
When finished with this page, tap the “back” arrow at the top left of the screen.
The System is designed to operate without any troubleshooting required; however, because it makes use of some older components, problems may arise over the course of normal use. Some of these problems, and potential solutions, are listed below:
1. Individual screens fail to turn on or off. Some screens may fail to turn off at the end of the day, or may fail to turn on again at the beginning of the day. Try using the System Power switch again. If this doesn’t work, escalate to Support.
2. Bingo Ball Camera feed drops out. The feed from the Bingo Ball Camera (in the blower table) has been seen to drop out. When this happens, the screens that were showing the live view of the balls coming up is replaced with black screens (which may also show a “No Input” type message). This is impossible to fix using the touchscreen – escalate to Support immediately.
3. Screens showing the Kodiak Bingo Boards or Bonanza feed are frozen or missing. This System is entirely separate from the Kodiak systems. Any issues with those systems should be escalated through BCLC’s support system.
4. Screens show a “No Input” message during regular use. Try switching to a different game mode, then back again. If the screen in question continues to show “No Input” through those changes, escalate to Support immediately.
When dealing with Support on any issue that's specific to one or more screens, it's helpful to refer to them using the numbers shown on the maps below for First and Second Floors.
